Jodie Lightning

Oh Lightning is an independent illustrative business founded by me, Jodie Lightning. The business is a result of my feelings. I began drawing because I wanted to focus on something else, that could express what I was feeling when I was struggling to talk about it. Creating these products encourages me to practice mindfulness, being present and focusing on the process. 

It began back in 2020, I had been sharing snippets of journal drawings on my personal social media. I decided to make an Etsy page and sold work there for over a year whilst I completed my master's degree. After graduating in September 2021, I started to feel like I was struggling to see the direction where I wanted to go, so I decided to take a break and put the shop on pause whilst I thought things through. I continued to work my retail job and participated in the work Secret Santa and I received ohlightning.co.uk as a paid domain for a year. To this day, it is probably one of the best gifts I have ever received, as this motivated me to rebrand and create my new shop in the New Year. 

Since then, my style has developed from just black and white line drawings to paintings full of colour. I now make prints onto clothing and other pieces to make you feel (hopefully) good things. I began trading at markets and seeing people’s reactions to my work and this has just fuelled my drive to continue to focus on Oh Lightning.
