Alex Ayre

Alex Ayre is an award-winning filmmaker, based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Ayre has received a Royal Television Society Award and gained recognition from Channel 4’s Random Acts and BBC Fresh, and has also directed several National Lottery Heritage Funded films including his feature documentary The Dream Palace. His documentary work usually touches on the themes of ageing, locality, and fame in a small community setting. From Berwick to Brick Lane, he has worked on moving image projects across the UK which document the lives of local communities, and he enjoys blurring the lines of industry standard and community filmmaking. Alex has worked extensively in capturing contemporary dance on film, most notably in his short films The Brink (with Connor Scott), Dancing with My Dad (with Lizzie J Klotz), and through his recent work with balletLORENT.
